Pre / Post Op Rehabilitation

What is it and how is it used?

Physical therapy is a very important part of your recovery process from surgery to get you back to your prior level of function. Physical therapy can also be beneficial prior to surgery to allow for better outcomes.

  • Pre-operative rehab or "prehab"
    • Pre-op/prehab is physical therapy performed before your surgery and is recommended by some surgeons. Prehab can help build strength and increase mobility for a better and quicker recovery following surgery.
  • Post-operative rehab
    • Post-op rehab is specific to the surgery performed. It is designed to help reduce pain and regain strength, mobility, and independence safely following your surgical procedure. Your physical therapist will work closely with you to determine the activity level you want to get back to and help you safely return to your prior level of function.
