Manual Therapy

What is it?

Manual therapy is a hands-on treatment approach used by physical therapists to treat various impairments. Different techniques can be used to reduce pain, improve mobility of joints, reduce muscle tension, enhance flexibility, and even improve strength and stability.

Different manual therapy techniques that may be used include:

When is it necessary?

Manual therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions and impairments ranging from acute and chronic injuries to pre- and post-surgical conditions. Your physical therapist will work with you to determine if manual therapy is needed and what techniques would be most beneficial for your treatment and returning you to your prior level of function.
